In high school, Mark Forstner once caught two touchdown passes and kicked the extra points all in one game. While this was a shining moment for him at Fort Lauderdale High School, he would go on to display his versatility and skill on a much bigger stage as part of the US Navy.
Forstner, an avid Miami Dolphins fan who proudly served as a Helicopter Pilot in the Navy, is this week’s Everyday Hero. Each week, City Furniture partners with the Miami Dolphins in recognizing an Everyday Hero. The program that was started by the Furniture gift card as an expression of gratitude for their service. Forstner, who grew up locally in Plantation, FL, retired from an illustrious career of service on April 1st, 2018. He is certainly worthy of the honor.
Over the years, Forstner was deployed in the Baltic Sea, Arabian Gulf, East Pacific and West Pacific. His excellent work as a helicopter pilot earned him the Defense Meritorious Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and the Navy Commendation Medal among a string of other accolades.
While his service in the U.S. Navy took him all over the world, a part of Forstner’s heart always remained here in South Florida with his beloved Miami Dolphins. Now many years after falling in love with team icons Dan Marino and Don Shula, he is being celebrated by the organization they helped build.
Thanks for being our Everyday Hero!
