When Service Team Leader Gerald Williams had to end his NFL career due to injury, he knew he needed a new plan. And with his passions including sports and giving back, he and his wife founded G1 Sports Support.
A not for profit organization based in Broward county, its purpose is to help the children of disadvantaged parents get involved in sports. Covering 100 percent of athletic registration costs and sporting equipment, Gerald just wants to give kids the chance to play, a reason to get off the streets, and keep a healthy lifestyle. They also partner with the Marlins, Dolphins, Heat, and local colleges to take groups of children to games, and talk to the players’ parents, who let them know anything is possible.
With a goal to get more community support and expand into Dade County, Palm Beach County, and beyond, Gerald still doesn’t hesitate to do more—he spends his days off going to preschools for play dates, where the pro athlete is known to hula hoop and play T-ball with the children. He simply says, “I got help when I was young, and I want to do the same.”
