Green Conscious Furniture Company
City Furniture is Green Conscious
When you take care of the environment, you help ensure the future of the human race.
At City Furniture, we are proud to be a business that considers the environment, and we have built a culture that embraces the movement for a cleaner planet. Below are some of the things we do to make the world a better place:
- - We have been recycling all office and showroom paper waste since 1980.
- - We are founding members of the Sustainable Furnishings Council.
- - Our merchants ensure that all the wood used in our furniture comes from sustainable forests.
- - Kevin Charles Upholstery has been using cushions made out of soy since 2008.
- - We recycle all of our packaging.
In 2001 we created a recycling center in our Operations Department. We bale all of our cardboard waste and send it to a local paper recycling mill that makes products like gift boxes and shipping boxes. We also process and condense all of our Styrofoam waste and send it to a plant that reprocesses it into plastic materials to make items like picture frames and outdoor furniture.
Our Boca Raton City Furniture Showroom, which opened in January 2011, is innovative and the first green furniture store in Florida! From its rooftop solar tubes for daylight harvesting, to its LED lighting inside and out, the iconic structure at 3350 Airport Road is South Florida's first full-line furniture store pursuing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The superstore's environmental features are expected to use 42% less water for interior uses and 78% less for landscape irrigation. The high-efficiency management system, heat-reducing features, and strategic use of natural light will conserve energy. Even recycled cherry wood is being used to add to the décor of the showroom.
- - We drive compressed natural gas vehicles
In April of 2014, we converted 51 trucks in our 85-truck fleet to compressed natural gas, and have plans to complete the rest by 2016. We’re the first in our industry to make the switch, and the new trucks benefit the environment with less pollution and reduced reliance on imported oil.
